    I enjoyed that thanks Ade.

I've been having a tidy up in my workshop and found my Stratos stash! I've taken photos of some of the publications, magazines etc. I've held onto. If anyone wants more details of any of the articles I'd be happy to share.

I'd forgotten Litton used a pic of my Allora on their promo stuff in the early days....made my day, that has! Ta!

Oh, and just for the avoidance of doubt, yeah, I'm doing a "look at me, aren't I important" thing here. As well as showing how old I am....

Don't think you'd struggle to identify me on any old pics, Robin - I was just as bald back then... but you know how it is, some peeps don't need hair to look good.

Another video - Stratos and 131. Apologies if already posted. All in Italian but a lot of early footage.

    Cheers Mike

Wow Mike, that is an impressive stash! I've only got those two Classic Replicas from your 1st photo and the April/May 1989 edition of Component Car Classics which is pathetic in comparison. This comes from the time I 1st thought about the then Transformer kit and visited Gerry in Frant. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
    Cheers!

    Re: Help with Lockdown

Browsing the "old road rallying photographs" page on Facebook I came across this Motoring News rally report from 1983. Those with an eagle eye might spot myself and buddy of forty odd years Dave George listed in the results at 28th position.
Brought back memories this as we had a great night on Anglesey. The Palferman was always a special event put on by Caernarfon and Anglesey MC.
I had been preparing an A series Manta for months and it was touch and go if it would be ready, but managed to MOT it on the Saturday morning. However, the Post Office was closed by the time I got there so no tax disc.
I phoned the RLO to see if he would allow us through scrutineering without a tax disc but his immediate answer was NO!, so I managed to ring off without giving my name!
After much deliberation we decided to take my company car instead. This was a four door 1.6 Ascona!
Our total rally preparation was plugging the Don Barrow Poti into the cigarette lighter socket.
No problem at scrutineering with the change in entry but it was amusing, while plotting, to see the RLO examining every ones windscreen to see who was sporting a Guiness label. He must have been really disappointed!
We had a great run and while everyone else had fuel worries on the 100 mile sections we averaged 20 to the gallon!
No disgrace coming where we did considering the opposition and our biggest difficulty was persuading Marshall's we were actually competing when we charged into controls with no spot lamps and lap and diagonal belts on!
Didnt put a scratch on it either and the boss was none the wiser when I parked it up in the office car park on Monday morning.

    Hi John,

Standard cars on road rallies were often used.
One of the motor sport journalists of the time, used to rally Astras from hire companies.
    Returning the car on Monday.

    That's absolutely right Chris.
The Escort popular was the weapon of choice because you could drill holes in the metal bumper for mounting spots, then turn it over to hide the holes before taking it back off hire on Monday!
