    Re: Another Stratos project

After opening and removing the gearbox that sounds not good with some damages!
A nut of the clutch is broken and makes damage in the frame of the clutch and a small hole in the gearbox casing!
That explains the noise and the leak!
Hope the hole could be welded but the clutch needs to be replaced by a new one of better quality! This one is purchased new in France and has less 100 mileage! It’s very disappointing to order new parts from poor manufacturing quality.
Unfortunately nowadays a lot of parts are coming from China…such a shame!

That's bad luck. That hole is pretty much where the diff pin usually ends up smashing through the casing...and it can be repaired. I had an Alfa refurbished 6 speed GTA gearbox with a repair patch right around there.

The hard part will be stripping & cleaning it for welding. Fortunately, these 6 speed gearboxes come apart pretty easily. De-greasing it for weld will be the hard part.

I've never seen a rivet on a clutch fail like that.

Frederic has just told me where it came from and it really should have been better quality.

I wonder if they basically rebuild previously used clutches. One of the obvious differences is that the cover plate is grooved like a brake disc would be.
To machine the grooves I imagine they would have removed the rivets to put the face plate in a machine and have then rivetted it back on afterwards?

Or it could just be a freak random failure due to a material defect.
