Re: Welcome to the North American Stratos Owners Group

Over a decade ago now, but here's who I used:

I used a shipping company in the UK who had a freight forwarder in the US that handled everything on the US side (including broker selection). The UK shipping company was:

    Terry Pittaway
    PHOENIX Aircargo

    * AIR - SEA - EXPORT - IMPORT - WORLDWIDE *
    Tel:? +44 (0) 1425 673336
    Fax:? +44 (0) 1425 673391

    The US freight forwarder was:

    Dean LaBeet, Branch Manager LAX
    Clasquin U.S.A INC
    1210 E. 223RD STREET
    UNIT 323
    Carson, Ca 90745 U.S.A.
    TEL: 310 707 9050
    FAX: 310 707 9394
    CELL: 714-713 2128

Clasquin, in turn, selected a customs broker in Portland, OR (this was the destination port of my kit, so for you I assume they'd connect you up with someone in CA). The broker in my case was:
    Lisa Whiles
    General Manager ? Portland
    James J. Boyle & Co.
7505 NE Ambassador Pl. Ste B
    Portland OR 97220
    T: 503-284-0909 ext 120
    F: 503-284-8397
    e-mail: lwhiles@jjboyle.com
For current news, trade issues, and publications relating to our industry, please visit our website at www.jjboyle.com and click on ?Industry News? and ?Trade Issues/Publications?.

Of course, I still had to answer questions from all three companies at various stages regarding shippping contents, customs codes, HS-7 form, etc

Hope this is of some help

Hey Tbone, what was the total time from waitlist to deposit to production to delivery?

I was going to buy a complete car which fell through. Luckily I was already on the list so my build is supposed to start soon (April) so
l imagine it'll be a couple years from now...

I wonder if a 25% tariff applies to a car delivered in component form?!

It looks like it applies to cars and car components. I think it's highly likely that it will be applied. The dream just got more expensive.

Yes, based on everything I've read, it will impact the cost of what LB call "Turnkey Minus" (minus the drivetrain) which obviously isn't good. As I understand it, ANY car not made in the US will have the tariff applied no matter the year or origin country.

The US has been a pretty good market for classics coming from Europe for years so it's going to be interesting to see what happens with that US market for European based dealers specializing in European classics.

Having said ALL that, our fearless orange leader may wake up tomorrow with another great idea on how to generate revenues and things could change...

It may be that the UK is exempted from these tariffs. Our trade balance with the USA is actually pretty even so reciprocal tariffs might be seen as harmful to US interests by the orange one. Starmer appears to be working quietly to avoid tariffs being imposed on UK exports. Maybe we do stand a chance of being exempted but I'm not holding my breath.

Not to get to far down this rabbit hole but the logical guardrail of "harmful to US interest" doesn't appear to be part of his (cough:Putins) thinking process... I've got a while to wait so I'm not loosing any sleep about the LB import cost at this particular moment.
