    Re: Silverstone 2023

Thanks to Ken for organizing and thanks to Ian and Paul for the shelter.
On returning on Sunday morning from our accommodation at the salubrious National Badminton Centre - great accommodation and price plus fantastic Chinese restaurant 1/2 mile away - George and I pulled in for petrol.
On coming out of the forecourt shop a gent was looking at my car.
    "Very nice" he said
"Thanks, but it's not real I said"
"I know he said, but you made a good job of it (praise indeed!)"
Anyway we started chatting and it turns out he has a red one, but was not driving it at the weekend as he was competing in some races. He said he would try to come over to the shelter, weather and races permitting

    Hi Steve,
That was Paul Tattersall. He's got a real Stratos, and he was racing his Ensign F1 car.

Another photo of the SEC stand at Silverstone:

    Re: Silverstone 2023

Ok, first of all, a big thank you to Ken Tomblin for sorting the club stand with Silverstone. Especially as Ken didn't know if he was going himself!
Thanks to Julie Tomblin and Paul Hassall for putting the shelter up. I noted the neat symmetry with the Droop Snoot Group next door.
'Nice to see Tom Ransom and Max, Ollie Tomblin and Mrs Ollie, Steve Sellars and Steve's Dad, Steve Cook, Dave Beresford and Tim.

The weather turned out to be pretty good for the whole 3 days. When it did rain, it was fairly brief and often made one end of the circuit wet and the other dry. This made for some interesting racing.
The racing was as enjoyable as ever, but there's so many races on Saturday that it's a challenge to see all that you don't want to miss. For me, Friday is usually about doing everything else that doesn't involve watching the racing, so I had a look round the trade village with Ken, Julie, Paul and then Ian Hassall, after he turned up on his bike. After Ken Julie and Paul went back to the stand on one of the free buses, I walked over to the National pits. On Sunday I managed to get a bus to the International pits (Silverstone Wing) and get back to the infield (on another bus) before the first race started. Later on Sunday I watched the Formula 1 race from the Hamilton Straight grandstand, and saw Lancia Stratos owner Paul Tattersall spin his Ensign on a very greasy track. He didn't hit anything and neatly turned out of the spin to make the car go straight and forwards, which looked quite impressive. 'Had a look at the vast collection of RS200s, the display of current F1 cars and some of the other club stands before spectating again in the Luffield/Woodcote grandstand towards the end of Sunday afternoon. All in all an enjoyable weekend, if not a little bit tiring. It's probably an age thing? Here's some of the photos I took with one of the first Coolpix that Nikon ever made...

Gosh, it's like someone took photos in the Morrisons car park in St Helens on a Saturday afternoon....you know how it is, people race down there to take advantage of the "25% Off Sirloin" offer or whatever, before it's all gone.

Some great pics though Chris, just wondering which one was yours - I'm thinking it was the Ferrari BB? Or maybe it was the Galaxie, with the bigger boot so you could stuff more bargains in

I'd love to turn up to Morrisons in a Lola T70 Norm.
