Although 2WD, the 6R4 was derived from the 1960s Rover P6BS V8. The 6R4s transmission design is very similar, as is the position of the engine.
This is probably why a Rover V8 fits a 6R4 bell housing.
I think the Rover mid engined concept car is still in Gaydon museum, so anyone going to the AGM can have a look.
I forsee an appearance on Mastermind for you Chris.

I heard that the Rover V8 was originally a Buick design. Is that the same engine?
I remember that Rover prototype. I see design similarities with the Ginetta G15 there.
Wasn't this the same era that they were developing turbine technology too?

I have recently noticed more than one genuine 6R4 fitted with Jaguar AJ-V6.
As in, still with all the original 6R4 transmission.

I'm glad my own ageing brain remembered the Buick connection. After I posted I doubted myself thinking "was that the 2300 GM engine I was thinking of", reputedly a four cylinder engine being half of a V8, but now I'm thinking that was a Chrysler engine.
A good series for the tele would be 'Auto family trees'. Similar format to 'Rock family trees'.
