    To late!!

I sent Norm a gallon of petrol and some matches to set it alight.
Apparently once all the yellow and blue paint burnt off he was able to apply for an improvement grant.

The grant was actually for the reconstruction of Jim's face once I've finished with him (only better, hence "improvement")

    How does the Auction work?
Is there a fixed reserve or a flexible one depending on how the auction goes?

I've probably paid more attention to the Collecting Cars auctions as a spectator

No one knows the reserve price that you've set until the bidding meets or exceeds that value. No sale no fee. If you agree a sale then it's 6% plus VAT plus ?250 for the photography. If you dont get the price you want at the end of the auction that is the end of the story - although the auction house will subsequently try to negotiate a compromise deal if the final bid is withing striking distance of your reserve,

I notice that Bonhams now own 'The Market'. I wonder what the success rate is with those on-line auctions?
I'm sure that Car & Classic already had a lot of 'traffic' before it started doing auctions, so it's a very good place to advertise.
It's the first place I'd look.

The Collecting Cars auctions have a bit of a reputation for Traders putting some cars through the site which have maybe hung around the showrooms for a while or which have a patchy history so they can move them on without liability or warranty. There?s also real pressure on sellers at times to reduce the reserve during the auction to secure a sale.

I?ve gone to a few auctions for things other than cars and any time I?ve ended up as highest bidder I?ve always come away knowing I?d done quite well out of it. Don?t think I?d be brave enough for an auction as a seller tho

There are undoubtedly some good bargains to be had at Auctions provided you know the market - but the benefit of this C&C type auction is that you dont have to sell unless its a "no reserve" auction. If it doesnt reach your required price then it doesnt cost anything and you can slink away unobserved into the shadows - maybe for another go later on!
