I didn't have a Stratos there, again, but a special thanks to Ken, yourself, Paul and Ian Hassall.

The club run is shown on the youtube live feed for Day 3. Try not to listen to the absolute drivel the commentators come out with. "Built for group B" (o yeah?) "All of them were hand made..." ('funny? I thought they were built in Bertone's factory, but what I know?).

    Robin,
Part of the duties for the club stand organisers was to write down some information about each car. I filled the official Silverstone Festival form in on behalf of Ken. It turned out to be a complete waste of time.
Here is what the commentators actually said, word for word. They just made up as they went along. Second commentator in italics:

And we did just start to see Rob the Lancia Stratos

I’m so pleased you mentioned that.

So there are a lot of Stratos’s, or are they Strati?

I would assume they would be Strati?, but then you see so few of them because there was only 497 of them ever made

    ‘course there was

They were meant to make 500 of the run, to make them homologated for rallying when it was at its most crazy in that group B era, erm, 50 years old, that car, yeah 50 years old. 1974 it started, and ur, it’s great, I’ve seen a few of them about, but I’ve never seen,… I think we’re almost into double figures of them on track, and we can see them coming right past us now, and some in those retro rally, erm, rally era looking, and they just look brilliant. And they’re really tough to drive, you hear from classic drivers, people like Didier Auriol saying they were really really quite complex. And of course, they were all hand made, so each chassis had its own quirks and tweeks and quite a er, quite a challenging car to drive. Short wheelbase, big V6 engine…

Can I say quite a challenging car to co-drive as well?, as there’s no space to put anything. And back in the days when you had a co-driver in it, you needed maps, books etc. er, ok there were pace notes but also backed it up with maps and so on, so it was really quite tight and there was nowhere to put your erm you know your helmet and that kind of thing, because your sort of helmet was on the floor between your knees.

And, they had a height restriction for the drivers and co-drivers then, because the doors kind of close in with your helmet on when you’re all. It was a really …

Ah! There we are, talking of S2000s…

(me) Height restriction? Yes because Bjorn Waldegard, Markku Alen, Ilkka Kivimaki and Walter Rohrl were all little people???
Didier Auriol, that well known Stratos driver???

Just going down memory lane. That young man with Tom came round to see my boxes of bits (Corse) around 2011/12 to give me advice and encouragement. He was in the car with Tom on Sunday
    Thanks for the help Tom.

    Chris
I got called a Lotus at the recent Gargrave show- even after I asked if the commentator wanted any information. I was told "they know all about cars". Hmmm!!

That's Max, Steve. Tom's son. 'Time flies.

Chris. I know, but somehow Tom does not look old enough!

Though I noted Max kept sitting in the driver's seat "staking his claim"

Yes, Max often sits in the drivers seat. He has his driving test coming up soon but even if he passes that he has a bit of a wait to drive my car. Insurance/age and could I watch him drive off down the road in my car...probably not!
