    New Tyres from Kwik Fit

Tried to find 2 new front tyres 225/45 R16 for my Corse.
Falken don't seem to make them anymore.
I had previously vowed "Kwik Fit never again", but there seems to be a lack of 225/45 R16 available now.
Wanted fitted included so looked at Kwik Fit. They listed Yokohama AD08R.
    10% discount with online booking.
Went ahead and filled in all details until I had to select "my car" from the drop downs!
No chance, I could get no further. Not even a Lancia Stratos to select.
Went through the whole debacle again with the online chat only to eventually to get them to understand and give up. I asked if I should telephone the local Kwik Fit and book directly, to be told that I would not get the online discount but to "phone customer services". I asked what difference it made knowing the car when just fitting 2 tyres to wheels - no response.
Phoned customer services and explained again that the website does not have "my car" and so I cannot complete the purchase.
The nice lady said "i will book it for you online, but you won't get the discount". I said " i might as well call Halfords", she replied "yes probably". I asked what difference it made knowing the car when just fitting 2 tyres to wheels - again no response.
In the end I completed the online booking on the basis of a Lancia Thema 2l. Interestingly the invoice makes no reference to the car type.

Re: New Tyres from Kwik Fit

I recently needed 2 front tyres at fairly short notice for my McLaren and my local Kwik Fit not only were much cheaper than anywhere else but bent over backwards to order them including all the available discounts and supply only without fitting and get them to me before actually taking any payment. I was really impressed. Similarly a couple of months ago I dropped off a tyre for a puncture repair and when I went to collect it and asked how much it was they said they didn?t charge for simple repairs. Dunno if I?ve just got a great local branch or if that?s policy.

    Yes, started in Edinburgh.

I am sure in regard to price it is all down to who is doing the best discount on the day but the difference was over ?100 per tyre. Obviously I'm not a good Scotsman because I gave the guy who fixed my puncture ?20 anyhow. Do agree tho that its probably not a worthwhile journey to Forfar.

I always look at Camskill Tyres when choosing a new tyre or buying a replacement. It's mail order so you need a tame local fitter (not all will fit another suppliers tyres) but have found Camskill's site excellent for choosing a tyre based on size as the website offers all makes and ranks them by wet grip, dry grip and noise with prices/availablity/delivery timescales obvious. Highly recommended.

Well Kwik Fit customer services replied saying they needed to know that they could accommodate the vehicle to change the tyres, in case I arrived in an artic. Why I would want 225/45 R16 on an artic eludes me.
They offered ?30 in vouchers for the inconvenience.
I wish they would fix their website so it has all cars, accept manual entry or allow the popup to be bypassed with some sort of disclaimer about vehicle size.

Plus 1 for Camskill. I think it was Robin who put me on to them. No nonsense and I've found if you take an interesting set of wheels to most tyre fitting places they fall over themselves to help.
