    Passing of John Butterfield

    In Memory of John Butterfield

A Tribute to a Cherished Member of the Stratos Enthusiasts Club (Stratosec)

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Butterfield, a long-standing and treasured member of the Stratos Enthusiasts Club (Stratosec).
John was more than just a member; he was a pillar of our community, a source of inspiration, and a dear friend to many.

John's passion for the Lancia Stratos was unparalleled. His knowledge about the iconic vehicle, his dedication to preserving its legacy, and his enthusiasm for sharing his insights were remarkable. He attended countless events, always eager to discuss the finer details of his Hawk Stratos and its history, and his contributions to our club were invaluable.

Throughout his years with Stratosec, John exemplified the true spirit of a car enthusiast. His commitment went beyond mere participation; he was deeply involved in the club's activities, always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply share a story. His presence was a constant reminder of what it means to be part of a community that shares a common passion.

John's legacy within Stratosec will not be forgotten. His dedication and love for his Hawk Stratos will continue to inspire future generations of enthusiasts. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, shared experiences, and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we mourn the loss of John Butterfield, we also celebrate his life and the indelible mark he left on our club. We extend our deepest condolences to Carol his wife for over 50 years, family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and generosity. John's spirit will forever be a part of Stratosec, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all enthusiasts.

Rest in peace, John. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

    Re: Passing of John Butterfield

Very sorry to hear this Ian,
I have had many "long" conversations with John in the early days of LB and he was a true character and enthusiast.
John was a long standing & very prominent member of this club for many years & was also ever present at events such as Stoneleigh with both the camper & Boris.
He and Carol also did a sterling job of promoting the club at overseas events such as the Rallye Festival Trasmiera.
Our thoughts are with Carol & his family at this difficult time.
    RIP John & thank you.

I had the pleasure of first meeting John & Carol on David's Yorkshire run in 2016, their 911 looking superb along with the two Stratos & my shabby integrale, a great day & fond memories.
Deepest condolences to Carol & Family.

    Re: Passing of John Butterfield

Haven't been near the Forum this past week due to illness, but this is a hell of a shock to come back to......I'd heard John was ill so in some ways this wasn't totally unexpected, but still.
I only knew him since 2016, during which time he served two "sessions" as Chairman, before he stepped down in 2019 after nominating me as his replacement. He never did say whether he regretted that decision!

John and Carol put an enormous amount of time and effort into running the club. Carol also held the Membership and Regalia positions, and they'd always be at "open" events like Stoneleigh with their campervan selling gear, signing on new members and handing out burgers and hot dogs. It's not something we've ever been able to replicate since, and without them and their efforts I don't think the club would still be around - we're still keeping going based on foundations they laid.

I'll be at the funeral on the 7th, assuming I'm driving again (should be). On behalf of myself and the whole club, our thoughts and deepest sympathies to Carol and family.
