So here I am, back again. I put a deposit on a kit in 2019 but time has passed by with life being too busy to build the car. I was planning on a GR2-FE engine and had already purchased a gearbox with the correct shortened gear ratios from Lotus.
So here I am with time to thhink about starting. Will be Jan 26 before stuff comes through but gives me time to consider options. I think I have changed my mind on the engine choice. After seeing the Pistonheads video with Jim Crosby car I want the noise and not to fussed about the power. I have a very fast car to use and track cars (one being a Mk 1 1.6 MX5 with lottle power but is so much fun) so ultimate power is not my goal.
I could relate to everything that Jim said about the AlItalia livery, the mudflaps with chains and the roof scoop. It is the feel of the whole package and the noise in intergral to this. I am also not concered with it being a absolute copy of the original and will be wanting creature comforts like aircon and a entertainment system that can be heard. It would be designed to be used on the track as well as a fun road car..
My big issue is I am a complete novice at mechanics and have really only ever changed a wheel. It will be a learning curve. The other thing is I dont have a garage. I will be building it in my living room which will be converted into a garage for an optomistic 3 months to get it to a rolling chassis but without the engine. (Living room has 4m wide folding sliding doors. They will now be referred to as garage doors)
Wish me luck
