    Hawk HF2000 for sale

It is with regret that I offer my Hawk HF2000 for sale to Club and Forum members before the wider market.

Age has got the better of me as I approach my mid-70?s, I?m finding the car harder to get into, even harder still to get out of and difficult/painful to work on underneath and in the confined spaces such as in the driver?s footwell. I will no longer enjoy driving it and have reverted to my original form of transport - motorcycles which surprisingly, I find I can still get onto after a gap of 52 years. It is time for somebody else to take charge of the car.

Built around 1994, it is correctly registered on the V5 in my name as a Hawk HF2000, is age-exempt from MoT and is recorded as HISTORIC with the DVLA. It has a registration date of 01/02/1979 and may be re-registered in Europe, the USA and elsewhere.

Since the car was built, it has had four owners, including myself. I?ve done possibly about 5000 miles in it, including the Club Taith Cymru round about 2007. I have not had the car on the road since 2008 but it has been garaged in a building constructed especially for it and indeed was built around it. I was working on parts of the car at the time my wife became very ill some 12 years ago and have done nothing at all since her death apart from recently reassembling the suspension and getting the car into a state where it can be moved and the engine started.

The car has lots of nice features but some aspects are now looking tired.

    Main features:
Safety Devices chassis with sloping bulkhead
Painted in BMW Mauritius Blue (thank you ProtoTipo for the correction)
Rear wishbones in the early oval tubing, painted finish, not nickel plated. Superflex bushes from Mick Miller Lotus
Leda rear struts, rebuilt around 2010 by Dampertech/Gaz to include replated bodies, slightly softer valving, new piston rods. Never been on the road
Original modified Beta strut top mounts
Front suspension as originally built; Spax dampers
Interior in black and grey Alcantara with tuck and roll headlining in grey; flocked door interior panels
Great dash panel but the main light switch really needs to be relocated to the right place if only for safety reasons
    Momo steering wheel
    Acrylic side windows
    Sabelt 4 point harnesses
    Vitaloni Californian door mirrors
    Monza type fuel filler caps
    Graham Bates panel alignment components
Graham Bates aluminium boot lid with internal bracing
    Graham Bates boot floor reinforcement
Graham Bates sill jacking points - whether structural is unknown and I haven?t tested this. The external plates are smaller than the on the Waldgaard car
Image three piece 15? diameter by approx 10? coffin spoke rear wheels on 5 x 108 studs
Image three piece 15? diameter coffin spoke front wheels on 5 x 108 studs
    FIAT Dino front hubs
Lancia Beta 2 litre engine with Beta gearbox that has been converted to a hydraulically operated clutch
Guy Croft inlet manifold with Dell Orto DHLA 40 carburettors
    Facet Red Top fuel pump
Malpassi Filter King fuel pressure regulator and filter
Hawk stainless steel exhaust, silencer and tail pipes
Cam belt replaced a month ago, engine oil and filter changed
    New battery
Brakes overhauled just over a year ago
    Fuel drained and replaced

    Main defects:

Paintwork on the main body and rear clam has become blistered in places due to the car being under a car cover for one winter prior to 2010. The front clam has not been affected. Usual stone chips and some scuffs plus some tiny spots of white emulsion paint and one or two mortar splashes that I didn?t notice when the garage was built. Difficult to show in photos which flatter it somewhat
Interior carpeting has become detached in places where the adhesive has become brittle
Engine runs but poorly. Quite some time after the engine was changed, I fitted the DHLA40 carburettors as more suitable for the engine?s state of tune but these are not jetted correctly and far too lean at idle and around progression. The engine will not idle until it has been warmed up thoroughly and the mixture still seems very weak
Left hand headlamp pops up but does not close properly, instead cycling up and down whenever the headlights are off
Cutch is now stuck in an engaged condition and the car will not go into gear with the engine running. As a result, it is not drivable - I may have a go at freeing it off but it?s a pretty brutal procedure
Doors do not shut particularly well; never have done
Rear spoiler was split when my wife reversed into it and was removed. The rear clam has some gel coat star damage around the fixing points at the sides. FWIW, I think the car looks better without either spoiler - most would disagree I think
Heater was disconnected and water pipes blanked off when the engine was changed. Heater unit under the dash has the blower and water valve but only ever had recirculating air so demisting is poor
Front tyres about 17 years old; rears are over 20 years. Plenty of tread on both - fronts barely used
Car has not until last month ever had E5 or E10 fuel - suitability of fuel lines unknown
Tab washers on one rear strut top rod missing but Simmonds nuts would do this job well

    Included with the car:

Rear anti-roll bar and linkage (removed from car and never refitted)
Front anti-roll bar that was never fitted; no linkage
Rear spoiler - this is a straightforward GRP repair
A few bits and pieces such from the car when I first had it
Additional set of Image rear rims 15? diameter by about 11.5? for wider rear tyres
Shaped aluminium pipes to re-connect to the heater
Possibly some other odds and ends including Hawk-made GRP piece for front bulkhead to cover end of clutch pedal - if I can find it

To be offered as first refusal to the buyer but not included in the price below:
New heated windscreen (from the 2012 Club group buy)
New glass side windows (from the 2010 Club group buy in association with Roberto Cassetta in Turin)
New aluminium radiator by Chris Smith of the Club

The car is in Southampton, Hampshire. Asking price GBP42,000.
Payment to be in GBP drawn on a British retail bank.

Old expansion vessel, believed to be Land Rover but the parts were soft-soldered which is no good here. Would clean up and could be brazed or silver soldered. Fits under the rear chassis rail in same holes that the newer bracket that I made fits. Current expansion vessel is Lancia Beta, possibly from an IE model.
