Appeal for non-Stratos help - afford me this boon, I prithee

My apologies - I intended to post this in the Club Members' Chat area... with no offence intended to non-club members.

I've sold my Hawk and now bought a 1973 Triumph TR5T motorcycle.

I wish to buy some parts from a place in Dallas, Texas. The place will not answer my e-mail and appears to have hung up the phone - presumably on seing a +44 number calling and seems to only deal with USA adresses. The shop does not do internet sales or payments although parts inquiries are made via the web site. Payment is by telephone.

Is there anybody in the USA (somebody who has classic Triumph motorcycles would be ideal) who might assist me by getting hold of some parts? What I'd like is for a kind soul to purchase a few bits for me and send them to the UK. I know absolutely nobody in the USA, nor does anybody in my family

It's not entirely straightforward due to the seller's procedures. It will need either a phone conversation or a parts inquiry through their web site followed by them calling you to take payment and address details. If the stuff is available, you then let me know how much I owe you. I pay by whatever means you wish and you send the stuff to me in the UK. You would need to make out a customs declaration fixed to the package in whatever way the USA requires. Total parts cost will be about $100 I expect, plus any taxes and US shipping.

I suppose it may help if you are in one of those non-tax states like Oregon but I don't understand US sales tax, use tax or in some states no tax. I'll just have to take whatever happens on the chin.

The irony of parts that I want for a British bike that are only available in the USA is not lost!

    Thanks for reading this.

Have you tried these guys in the UK?

    https://www.classicmotorcyclespares.com/

I've no idea who they are, but I've had the link for ages. If you can find the parts in Italy I'd be happy to help you.

    Cheers, Mike

Thank you Mike, both for the link and for the offer to help in Italy.

I thought I'd found most places for old Triumph bits but this one I had missed. They have a good range of parts but sadly not thetwo things I'm looking for. If I had a 650 Triumph, the pars supply situation would be a lot easier. Mine's a 500!

I haven't looked at Italy as a possible supplier of Triumph parts but will investigate. I think it's highly unlikely though I'll find this part anywhere easily - it's not a normal consumable but it is subject to wear.

    Thanks

You could try STS Imports. STS Imports |

They allow you to purchase items in the US and send them to their address in the US. They then fill a container and bring it over. every 6-8 weeks I think. They charge you for the space in the container, and any VAT and customs duties. I used them to get some tyres and it worked well. Presume they would allow you to ship motorcycle parts, but give them a bell.

Thank you. I will get onto them but due to the antiquated method of doing business with the parts place in Texas, it's not going to be a simple order.

I cannot get any kind of reply from the supplier from my e-mail contact or directly by phone. As they do not communicate with me in the UK, I cannot order or even establish whether the parts are actually in stock. The entire purchase process would have to be handled entirely from the USA, I suspect. I very much doubt STS would want to get involved for such a small low value package. I can only ask.

Thank you soko121, I'm most grateful to you for your offer of assistance.

I'll e-mail you but I think it may be prudent to delete your e-mail address from the open forum.
