    So is there any advantage to having a 'historical' plate. Here we have 'collector' plates for cars that are over 30 years old, but there are restrictions to the amount of driving you can do as well as the reasons for driving the car, but you never have to pay an annual tab fee again.

    yes here in germany the advantage is you pay only 195.-Euro
    tax for one year and you do not need a catalytic convertor.
    Otherwise you pay 25,36 euro per 100 ccm for an Alfa 3000
    you pay also over 750.-Euro!
