I have fitted new seatbelt mounts.
Just picked up on the change to the regs for 2016.
I can't see how Strati can continue to be used - getting in and out with helmet and HANS will be impossible, as too will be putting them on in the car. The restrictions on seat belt angles also sound as if they'll be impossible to achieve in one.
Has anybody else thought about this or got a solution?
I have fitted new seatbelt mounts.
I am a tech inspector for Rally America, we have used the HANS device almost since created. I have not seen of heard of the Strti device you are talking about, do yo have any information and photos of these? Most of our rally drives and co-drivers have gotten proficient at putting their helmets on and off with these devices.
Strati, plural for Stratos.
It does sound better than Stratoseseseseses
Paul.
Sat in a real one, may never wash again!
As above - Strati = more than one Stratos!
I have concerns about the practicality of wearing/putting on/getting in & out of a Stratos with one on. I admit I have never had my hands on one. However I already struggle with modern seats, door bars and helmets, and if I'm going to have to spend £lots on a new helmet/hans device +/- rebuild my seatbelt mounts to suit, just for one or two events a year, then I'd like to know I can safely use it in my car. I suspect Steve Perez will have an answer!

There are quick release tethers available so you could whip it out of the way before getting out.
On the small amount of competion that I have done, getting in and out of a Stratos with your helmet on is not easy (maybe it is partly down to my inflexibility).... I chose to put my helmet on after getting seated. However putting on your HANS device as well either inside the car or getting in the car with the HANS device and helmet on will be extremely difficult due to the restricted entry area and restricted space within the car. I think the time I went out with Steve Perez in the Stratos he just wore a helmet, however I suspect that now his seating arrangement will be slightly adjusted to allow the fitment of the HANS device.... As John says "Steve will know".........
For a start, seats now have a different shape to accommodate a hand device, that should help a bit, only other thing you can do is gain more headroom by moving your seat base forward and reclining it back more. Problem after that is your legs interfere with the steering column....
If you're as tall as me 6'1" getting a helmet on in the car is just like watching a monty python sketch..... Ridiculous.. but just about doable if the passenger is out of the car, but then you are trapped in the thing.
You would need better seats to allow some movement with less side support, but that defeats the object of the seat....etc.
All this discussion of how bad it will be, has anybody tried with a hans device? Like I said, tethers can be attached after.
