Update / Heads up.

The background work is progressing well although we are still at the admin stage.

Robin and I will be updating the thread in a few weeks as finer details become available and once Ive sorted the 2024 AGM (see separate Thread).

We will be looking for 3 display cars in total and volunteers for the show duration to support on the stand.
Big thank-you to Justin, who has kindly agreed in principle to us having his original Stratos on the Stand this year which will be a great addition and sure to attract even more visitors.

Hi all. A bit of help if you could please. Use of our NEC code is basically zero to date. It would really help the club if you could share this on your social media etc.

This years club stand will feature 3 cars a round arch LB (Craig), Steve (Hollytrees) Corse 1 Chardonnay liveried car with the centre piece of our Hall of Fame theme being Justins' original 1975 GroupIV car.
A big thank you for your support in providing these cars and to Phil Dolby for offering up his LB as well.

Is there no limit to how many time the code can be used Neil? If the code was quoted on a very popular forum, for example?

The code's only supposed to be used by club members and not to be broadcast to the general public - in fact you're not even supposed to have it displayed on here! The show organisers would prefer people to contact a club official to get it, to ensure they're genuinely entitled to use it.....yeah, I know, but that's what they want.....

I won't put it on a PistonHeads thread then.

Probably a good idea, then they won't send The Boys round. Then again, I've got Leah for defence, and I know who my money's on ;)

It is (relatively) easy for me to get my car to NEC on Wednesday and leave it on the stand for the show. I will then drive home on Sunday night.
My problem is getting to the show on Sunday to man the stand. The earliest I can get to the NEC on Sunday - by our wonderful rail network is 11 AM.
If I try to book a cheap local hotel room for Saturday night it is about ?250 (Sunday night is about ?70 - what goes on around the NEC on Saturday nights!!)
Is 11AM OK, or should I drop out and hope someone else can take my place on the stand?

Hi Norm / Chris. Apologies I should have explained earlier. The organisers have relaxed the rules a lot this year (I have double checked and had confirmed in writing before my original post). So long as the original source of the code is generated from the club via our forum, social media, at events and to Friends and family it's fine (we have no control after that as its public). Codes are being promoted at car shows etc and I stuck one in my windscreen at Silverstone and Penkridge. Pistonheads might be stretching it but it's already on our Facebook page so fully in the public domain. The organisers want footfall and it maybe the shift in approach in exchange for a stand at the show is helping generate this footfall, rather than just the discount benefit for the club members. I keep getting emails reminding me of the zero code usage and suspect the code is their monitor which may be used in future years to determine stand invites. No code use may = no stand in future years.

Thanks for that discount code update, Neil....I'm frankly amazed they've taken that step but if it's footfall they're after, it's one way of helping. Although making it cheaper without a code and pegging the car park fees to something a bit (lot!) more reasonable might help too :)

I suspect the show organisers have no control over the car parking fees Norm and just rent the halls for the show. The footfall makes them a profit and encourages repeat shows each year?

I think I'll be going for a day and will stop by the stand but the reason will be shopping for stuff for the Beta restoration!

Yeah, I know it's the NEC itself that sets the car park prices, but I was on a rant and saw no reason to rein it in :)

However, I have been to "trade"-type events (IT related things) where the parking was free. I suppose the NEC charge more in that case to hire the halls.

One year I went there for the Classic show and there was some other event on with free parking, so I parked in their area and, er,....well I'd be daft to do otherwise ;) And, it used to be much cheaper to park in the train station car park, and just walk across the bridge to the show - but now they charge the same so no advantage there any more. Gits.

1a. I need to confirm process for car park passes. We have a limited number which last year had to be recycled daily to be used again. The problem is they were issued to be used on exit!
2. Members displaying their vehicles have been issued passes and on site instructions relating to displaying the vehicles.
3. Robin and I will be setting the stand up on Weds & Thurs - (I have registered the Club with the NEC Voyage control car park booking system as we need to pre register our cars for the Weds & Thurs only. This is only applicable to Robin and myself to deliver materials for site setup

This years show seemed bigger than previous , just like thank Neil and Robin for there part in organising this years event and giving me the opportunity to show my car, really enjoyed it lots of nice feedback on all three cars from everyone who visited the stand, also was a nice atmosphere to be part of the lancia stand

Great show and great to catch up with everyone yesterday.
Thanks again to Neil and Robin for faultless organizing of armbands, parking, access etc. It sure makes the 4 hr drive home feel better when there are no hitches.
George and I even managed to find Paul H sitting down relaxing on a book stand!!
