If you email the DVLA they will tell you if it's ever been issued. If not they will put it into an auction - they won't sell directly to you for some reason. Takes a while to happen though, 6 months+ in my experience.Originally Posted by Guy Mayers

I'm sure you're right about the length of time it takes... It's a money making exercise for the taxman, if you want it, someone else might so they auction to the highest bidder. I guess every penny helps reduce the deficit?

I managed to get STR 410S at DVLA auction couple of months ago I think it was a sleeper as only 2 bids. Haven’t even got the LB kit yet although delivery confirmed as imminent.
Amazed that that hadn't been taken before!
I managed to get STR41T at DVLA a few years ago....
About as close as I could find at the time.
You'd think it's just a small change, but I've had a few people comment that the car seems to look better with this number plate. Bizarre :-)
