The significance of the final stage is that it's the longest one Steve, 38 miles of loose surface where tyres are scrabbling for grip and having chunks ripped off them by sharp gravel. The Stratos has an advantage over the Escorts here as there is more weight over the driven wheels creating better bite and, hopefully, less wear. But a puncture for any of the leaders is possible and could change the whole leaderboard.

Oh no what a bad luck so close of the end with a fantastic result
Such an amazing drive and performance !
I remember the night stages in Costa brava mountains behind Steve in 2018 few months before his accident and was stunned by the sound of the engine but now since recent rebuild the Stratos is simply a blast !!

It's too cruel. He deserved a podium.

I think he won for the best sounding car, bonus prize for best looking by splitting up all those Escorts.

    Great effort none the less.

Don't suppose anybody took any pictures we could have for the Calendar? Please.
    Sach.

What cruel cruel luck to have to retire 8 miles from the end of a grueling 4 day event. The Perez family and whole team must be gutted to have come so close to a record 2nd place after the full rebuild in 2018. Our hearts go out to them.

Bloody good effort! I am guessing robust transmission parts are not quite as easy to obtain/use as ford bits...
Cannot be easy choosing to run a Stratos so that morally makes it a win in my mind
